Studio Assistantship

Studio assistants work closely with the studio technician and instructors to support studio operation for students, resident artists, and events. They will be selected based on their knowledge of a working studio, desire to continue work within the ceramics field, and their eagerness to work within a team.

Commitment term: 6 months-1 year
Application: TBA Fall 2026


Responsibilities:
-Meaningfully contribute to the maintenance of the studio
-Loading and unloading kilns
-General cleaning, mopping & organizing of communal tools/equipment
-Kiln maintenance
-Mixing glazes
-Participation in events such as Open Gallery, ArtScenes, and Rockford Clay Fest

Requirements:
-At least 21 years old
-Experience working within a ceramics studio; academic and/or community
-Customer service skills such as clear communication and punctuality
-Ability to lift 50lbs repeatedly
-Ability to navigate one flight of stairs repeatedly
-Be able to work two 4-hour shifts (8hrs total) each week
-Six month term commitment
-In enthusiastic pursuit of career in ceramics; higher education, teaching, and/or active studio practice
Preferred:
-Recently completed AA, BFA, and/or MFA in Ceramics
