3-DAY workshops for teens

3-day workshops offered once a month for teenagers ages 13-17 years old of all ABILITY levels to explore their creativity over the summer months.

Each 3-day workshop is themed and designed to teach different techniques with room for exploration and creativity. Each 3-day workshop covers both wheelthrowing  and handbuilding.  Teen workshops are guided by two experienced resident artist instructors. 

June 2nd-4th

“Slip + Swarm: Insects at Inferno”

This 3-day workshop focuses on making functional pottery inspired by insects and nature! We’ll use printed photos as references to decorate your wheelthrown artwork.

Tuesday 9am-noon: Throwing

Wednesday 9am-noon: Trimming and Attaching

Thursday 9am-noon: Decorating

Each class period will begin with a 20-40 minute demo. No prior experience required.

July 21st-23rd

“Dog Days”

This 3-day workshop focuses on making functional pottery inspired by your pets or favorite animals! We’ll use printed photos as references to decorate your wheelthrown artwork.

Tuesday 9am-noon: Throwing

Wednesday 9am-noon: Trimming and Attaching

Thursday 9am-noon: Decorating

Each class period will begin with a 20-40 minute demo. No prior experience is required.

August 4th-6th

“Illustrations on Pottery: Memes, Anime, + Cartoons”

This 3-day workshop focuses on making functional pottery inspired by contemporary media! We’ll use printed photos as references to decorate your wheelthrown artwork.

Wednesday 9am-noon: Trimming and Attaching

Thursday 9am-noon: Decorating

Each class period will begin with a 20-40 minute demo. No prior experience is required.

Logistical Info

Please be punctual! Inferno Clay Studio is a secure building-please ring the doorbell when you arrive at either the front/main entrance or back entrance. Free parking may be available in the back parking lot if needed. Free  2-hour and 3-hour street  parking is available for the main entrance. Guardians are welcome to stay in the building during the workshop. 

What to Bring

You will get messy! Wear appropriate cloths and footwear-no slides. Please bring  either an apron or small kitchen towel. A snack and a reusable water bottle are recommended. 

What to Expect

Students can expect to make new work Tuesday, decorate  Wednesday and Thursday, and pick up finished pieces at a later date communicated through email. All pieces will be finished with clear glaze by the instructor rendering them all food-safe and functional. Each student can expect between 2-5 pieces per 3-day workshop.  Class periods will include time for cleanup-an integral part of the ceramic process. 
 Please note: due to the nature of the material, Inferno cannot be responsible for any damage due to work caused by construction technique  or firing or glazing processes.

Completed Projects

We will communicate when projects are ready to be picked up through email. Please allow us 3-4weeks to complete your projects. Once notified, you will have an additional 2 weeks to retrieve your projects. You may make arrangements to have someone else pick them up. Projects left longer than a month are subject to be discarded.
